Every other month, pastors are invited join the Best Practices Book club and be encouraged and challenged by reading a variety of books to sharpen the best practices of ministry. The online club typically features an interview with the author and discussion about the key themes and application of the book to ministry.

Collegial book clubs have traditionally built camaraderie among colleagues, nurtured professionalism, or advocated key insights for living from authors on any given subject. Book clubs can also create a bevy of learning, help you gain better cultural awareness, and get you out of your comfort zone. In some instances, book clubs have been so inciteful as to relieve stress.

The focus of the NAD best practices book club is to: keep growing and learning professionally and spiritually, restore the joy of great discovery (aha moments), inspire critical thinking in an informal way, make learning fun, better their overall communication and writing skills, engender effectiveness, emphasize the seven core qualities.

It may be an anomaly, but it is quite possible to complete undergrad and seminary and not read thoroughly again. The book club will help pastors through discovery and rediscovery. It is about moving from a skimmed approach to study to read deeper and broader. Michael Campbell says, “you know what they say, leaders are readers, and we want to foster practical ways to go deeper and be like the admonition in the words of Solomon, “iron sharpening iron,” (Proverbs 27:17).

The book club is also be a continuing education source, currently formatted on your account at the Adventist Learning Community. You are eligible to receive continuing education credit hours by joining the book club event and reading the book. View the NAD CEU values here for reading a book.

We encourage you to purchase these books using your continuing education funds if possible. Generally, if you prefer electronic reading, it is cheaper than buying the hard copy: either way, happy reading as you invest in your personal growth and ministry.

The Book Club Meets next on December 6 and in 2023 on March 7, June 6, September 5, and December 5.
