Leaders are Readers!

Tod Bolsinger, author of the book Canoeing the Mountains, was the featured guest on the inaugural edition of the Best Practices Book Club held on February 2, 2021. The book club was recorded for your viewing experience.

Hosts Ivan Williams and Michael Campbell invite Tod to share some of the background of how his leadership book developed. Next, panelists Ron Aguilera, Heather Crews, Philip Baptiste engage in a discussion of adaptable leadership including comments from the virtual audience.

From the book cover: “Explorers Lewis and Clark had to adapt. While they had prepared to find a waterway to the Pacific Ocean, instead they found themselves in the Rocky Mountains. You too may feel that you are leading in a cultural context you were not expecting. You may even feel that your training holds you back more often than it carries you along. Drawing from his extensive experience as a pastor and consultant, Tod Bolsinger brings decades of expertise in guiding churches and organizations through uncharted territory. He offers a combination of illuminating insights and practical tools to help you reimagine what effective leadership looks like in our rapidly changing world. If you're going to scale the mountains of ministry, you need to leave behind canoes and find new navigational tools. Now expanded with a study guide, this book will set you on the right course to lead with confidence and courage.”

Tod Bolsinger joined Fuller Seminary in 2014 as vice president for vocation and formation and assistant professor of practical theology, and he now serves as vice president and chief of leadership formation. Ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA) in 1993, Dr. Bolsinger served as senior pastor of San Clemente Presbyterian Church from 1997 to 2014.

Every other month, pastors are invited join the Best Practices Book club and be encouraged and challenged by reading a variety of books to sharpen the best practices of ministry. The online club typically features an interview with the author and discussion about the key themes and application of the book to ministry.
