Hope…in the City That Never Sleeps

It was Frank Sinatra who said, “I want to wake up in a city that never sleeps, and find I'm a number one, top of the list.“ It’s one of the reasons why New York City (NYC) became known as city that never sleeps. But there are several other reasons. One is because the NYC subway system never closes. Times Square at 1am is busier than rush hour in most American cities. With nearly 20 million people in the NYC metro area, it is still the largest megalopolis in the United States, and it is center of business and commerce for the entire global economy. Speaking of the economy, here’s a fun fact. If NYC was a country, its economy would beat out the entire economies of countries like South Korea and Australia.

With all of the hustle and bustle, grinding and striving, there are so many people who need to hear the message of hope that the gospel of Jesus Christ offers. This is why we are proud to share about a new special initiative to minister to the people of NYC through www.connecthope.com. Through a partnership with Hope Channel, people will receive regular messages of hope on digital displays in downtown Manhattan; the heart of NYC. These advertisements will direct city residents to connect via text, email, or live chat on the connecthope.com website to assess needs and to connect them to resources. The website itself is a hub for resources, services, and organizations in the NYC metro area that are poised to meet immediate needs; like Adventist Community Services, New York Cares, and the Food Bank of NYC.

Here’s what we know…we know that “men’s hearts [are] failing them for fear,” and we know that people are “weary and heavy-laden.” Here’s yet one more way that they might find faith, hope, and love. How are you spreading hope in your city? Please reach out to us and share with us the various ways that you’re sharing hope in your communities.
