PELC 2023 Reflections: “Change”

It has been said that the only thing that is constant is change. Our task is to effectively manage change; and continue to sharpen the saw to learn new ways and strategies for managing change for the better.

This past week, members of our team spent a good portion of the week on the campus of Oakwood University for the annual Pastoral Evangelism & Leadership Council. Since 1979, pastors have convened at Oakwood University during the first week of December to talk about all things ministry. This year’s theme for the convocation was “Change.”

While several members of our team were not able to attend due to prior engagements, those who could attend had the privilege to sit down for a vibrant conversation with pastors. The video below explores some of the takeaways we gained from that conversation and from PELC 2023 as a whole.

One key takeaway is that pastors want to engage with administrators. They need to voice their concerns and hear meaningful feedback. A great deal of what we heard concerned the need for open communication.

After our session, we had the opportunity to chat with several pastors one-on-one. We appreciate hearing about the challenges pastors are facing, as well as what’s working well in the local churches.
